Equine science focuses on the nutrition, breeding, exercise physiology, rehabilitation, behaviour, health and wellbeing of horses, and explores the interaction between horse and rider.

You'll acquire scientific knowledge that can be applied within an industry setting to improve the management, performance and wellbeing of racehorses, performance horses and leisure horses.

Your studies will introduce you to the scientific and practical aspects of the equine industry, and to related social and community issues.

You'll learn from internationally-regarded equine academic staff, and have access to the most comprehensive set of equine facilities at any Australian university. Our facilities include equitation arenas, breeding and horse-handling facilities, day yards and stabling amenities, and specialist laboratories.

You'll work extensively with horses from the UQ Australian Stock Horse Stud. Further hands-on training includes industry placements and an optional international tour of US equine and production animal facilities in Kentucky and Texas.

You'll also have the opportunity to join the UQ Equestrian Club and ride and compete with your own horse or take part in external activities such as showing UQ-bred horses.
