Undergraduate honours courses

Gain field experience while working on real-world projects with industry partners with the Honours with an Industry Focus course (FOOD6100 or FOOD6200).

You can start this year-long immersive course in Semester 1 (FOOD6100) or Semester 2 (FOOD6200).

It will challenge you to apply your theoretical knowledge and the research skills developed in your undergraduate program.

Course structure

First semester

You'll co-create a research topic with an industry expert in the first three weeks of your program.

You'll then conduct a research program for the remainder of the semester, with emphasis on:

defining the research issue
establishing methodology
undertaking appropriate analysis of data
drawing defensible conclusions.

Second semester

The placement component of this course offers continuous, structured industry experience in a production or service enterprise.

As part of the placement, you'll:

undertake no more than 520 hours with your industry supervisor. You'll also work with an academic supervisor
complete 14 units.

Your placement will form a large part of your thesis.

When you undertake an industry placement, you could be tasked with:

solving a specific research problem
working in a particular role within the industry
gaining an overview of several aspects within a business.
