Since 1987 the CAEG has conducted a continuous stream of 25 agricultural research and development projects in China.

  • The long-standing research program is highly collaborative, applied and fieldwork-intensive and designed to deliver detailed and grounded research for uptake by government, industry and research agencies in China and Australia.
  • The program has three main themes: the development of China’s agricultural industries especially wool, beef, sheep meat, cashmere and crop-livestock systems; grasslands policy; and agricultural trade.
  • The research covers all regions of China, but especially in the Western pastoral region and several bordering countries.
  • Funding agencies include ACIAR, DFAT, DAWE, MLA and AWI
  • In recent years CAEG has turned to analysis of Sino-Australian agricultural trade and relations
