Test a drone mounted with a prototype Raspberry-Pi Multispectral camera and calibrate the sensor to accurately measure different field crop variables (eg type of crop and biomass/health). The project initiates with the student learning how to use the Pi MSS camera and fly the mini-drone platform and then takes them through the testing stages of the camera under lab and field conditions. The student then must sample summer crops (eg biomass) and compare the readings to the values of the sensor readings. The project finalizes with the student adding the drone collected data to the GIS and delivering a formula that characterizes the relationship between the sensor recordings and biomass.
