It's unclear how much organic nutrients contribute to plant nutrient needs. Yet this knowledge is crucial to better understand nutrient cycles in natural ecosystems and to devise better nutrient supply in agriculture. This knowledge frontier connects plant science, ecology and soil science.

Location: St Lucia, with possible research visits to collaborators in Switzerland and Sweden

Expected outcomes: laboratory field techniques with an understanding of organic compounds as signalling compounds and nutrient sources. Preparation for profession in research, industry or government

Supervisors: Professor Susanne Schmidt, Dr Nicole Robinson
