This project is in collaboration with Professor Jian-kang Zhu, Director of the Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology (Chinese Academy of Sciences). CRISPR technology allows us to target genes for mutation with an unprecedented accuracy, and doesn't leave any secondary effects in the genome. This technology is being used in all major crops for genetic improvement but, as with any new technology, CRISPR can still be improved. We want to develop enhanced CRISPR systems to speed up the production of better crops.
