Researcher biography

Simon grew up on mixed crop-livestock farms in New South Wales, Australia. He completed a B. Ag. Sci. at The University of Queensland and then worked a as Technical Officer with the Queensland Department of Primary Industries on sheep and goat research in western Queensland before completing a PhD examining the effects of nutrition during pregnancy on fetal and placental development in sheep at The University of Adelaide. Since 2005 he has been employed as a researcher at The University of Queensland. His research focusses on beef cattle, sheep and goat nutrition and production systems and ranges from feeding and grazing studies through to the use of molecular techniques to better understand animal metabolism. He is passionate about developing research capacity and improving livelihoods of smallholder livestock farmers in developing countries, and has been involved in research projects in Indonesia, Timor Leste, Myanmar, Thailand and Vanuatu.
